Teaming
Description
This is an excerpt from the full interpretation of this practice video. I team with Andrew Pelzer, wherein we demonstrate the Open Process Model of interpreting by each taking a language (me English > American Sign Language, Andrew American Sign Language > English) and providing support when necessary.
Reflection
I think we work well as a team due to our familiarity with each other’s approaches to interpreting and overall communication style. It allows us to recognize quickly when the other is stuck and support more effectively. Andrew makes good use of tone and inflection to produce a more accurate interpretation of the message.
Improvements
In this video more than most of my others, I noticed how much I tend to hesitantly start with an incorrect handshape, switch to a more correct one, then continue with the sign. This produces a stuttering-like effect and does not convey confidence in my own abilities or demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the language.
